Parent Chat Focuses on Smooth Transition to Middle School for Elementary Students

This spring a group of thirty Palisades parents gathered for a very important and successful Parent Chat.  The Parent Chat focused on the topic: How To Help Your Child Make a Smooth Transition to Middle School.  Participants were parents of current 5th graders from Durham Nockamixon, Springfield and Tinicum Elementary Schools in the Palisades School District.  The parents met at the Palisades Middle School for the discussion, which was facilitated by Palisades parent and UBHCHY Coalition member, Judi Pason.  Speakers for the evening were Palisades Middle School Counselor, Nancy Pontier and Palisades Middle School Health and Wellness Teacher, Jennifer Kukowski.  Pontier and Kukowski presented valuable information regarding the 6th grade curriculum including:  how student teams are organized, the typical 6th grade academic schedule, field trips and various social considerations that students commonly encounter as they transition to middle school.
Following the structured information session, current middle school parents were invited to share their personal experiences of the middle school.  Lastly, all enjoyed light refreshments as the evening came to a close.
