White House Sings Praises of Upper Bucks Healthy Communities Healthy Youth Coalition

The White House’s National Drug Control Strategy, a 59-page report addressing the President’s urgency to decline drug use in the United States and combat the belief that “drugs, addiction and the wide spectrum of related social ills could only be managed at best, not tackled head-on.”  Through this report, we learn that “with effective policy combining enforcement, treatment, and prevention, coupled with the support of State and local officials, and the work of faith-based and community organizations, real advances are possible.”
In this report, Upper Bucks Healthy Communities Healthy Youth was highlighted as the model coalition for 2007.  The White House dedicated page 17 to UBHCHY, and its mission to focus on positive youth development with supporting programs and by strengthening community relationships.  The Strategy Report further notes the Coalition’s success in achieving a 15 percent reduction in tobacco use among 12th graders, a 5 percent decrease in alcohol use among 10th graders, and a 44 percent reduction in tobacco use among 8th graders since its inception in 2004.
