Prescription drug abuse by teenagers is increasing at alarming rates and is the second most abused type of drug after marijuana. To help stem this rising tide, the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) sponsored its second national prescription drug “take back day” on April 30th.
This month’s is “Caring Neighborhood” which is defined as when a child experiences caring neighbors living nearby. When I think of this asset, I realize that we may all have a different view of what our “neighborhood” is.
The Parent Chats initiative is growing in Upper Bucks County! In the past two months two more successful Parent Chats have taken place. Both were held in the Palisades community and were moderated by UBHCHY Coalition Parent Educator, Judi Pason.
On May 26th the UBHCHY Coalition will be hosting its annual Upper Bucks Youth Summit at the Upper Bucks YMCA. This year, participating schools include Milford Middle School, Palisades Middle School and Strayer Middle School.
The Souderton Area School District and the Indian Valley Character Counts! Coalition (IVCCC) collaborated in the taping of a video for a staff development opportunity in January 2011.
The Borough of Quakertown became the first municipality in Bucks County to place a permanent “drop box” in their police department headquarters for citizens to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
UBHCHY Coalition is hosting a prescription drug take back day on April 30th from 10:00am-2:00pm.

On March 5, 2011, the UBHCHY Coalition held its first Parent Chat at the family home of UBHCHY Chairman, Ray Fox. Fifteen Quakertown community parents attended with their middle school daughters.
